[livejournal.com profile] raspberrysalmon and [livejournal.com profile] mirli posted this (2 for the price of 1 :-)

PIF meme: I will send a handmade gift to the first 3 people who leave a comment on my blog requesting to join this PIF exchange. I don't know what that gift will be yet, but you will receive it within 365 days. The only thing you have to do in return is "pay it forward" by making a similar agreement on your blog.

The "gift" you send doesn't have to be handmade or even material. It can be fic, icons, whatever.

I may well take quite some time for this (hopefully not the *whole* year, but months isn't out of the realm of possibility), being not really the handmade-making type. I do however have an idea in mind, but it might take a while. If it ever looks like I won't be able to do something handmade, then I'll get back to whoever replies here about other things I can do that they might want.

Oh cool! Can I play?

(you know what you'll get is the first three craft-geeks that see this ;)

Yup!

Probably. I think there's a fair few on my friend list, so I wouldn't be surprised if I see thundering hordes coming this way, provided they're not too scared off by the concept of me and "handmade".

I am totally on board with this -- if you'll tell me what PIF means in this context! I'm guessing 'pay it forward'? But I keep seeing PIF on Etsy items, and I don't get it.

Yup, that's the one. In this case, you "pay it forward" by making the same offer on your own blog, in the Etsy cases it's a bit more fuzzy. 30 seconds googling says that the general Etsy PIF promise is a random act of kindness (which may be giving someone a similar gift to the thing you got practically for free on Etsy), but individual sellers may say other things. Dunno really, don't spend any real time on Etsy (except when Wonderland (http://crystaltips.typepad.com/) posts about it).
