How come, when I come back, everything happens? First the Olympics and the whole G8 protests yesterday, then the bombings today. Am very glad that I think everyone I know that was in Central London today has gotten out ok, especially my parents, both who work in Central (my mother in the Chancery Lane area that's too damn close to the blasts), and both who were able to get back fine today. My mother in particular was on a Central line train that she got off of about 10 minutes before the first blast, and that was in the Liverpool St. area (very close to Chancery Lane). Not good. But, they got out ok, and everything appears to be being coped with ok. Heck, at least this is the scenario that's been planned for and excessively war-gamed for *decades*, and the emergency services appear to be doing a good job. The whole of the London Underground is one ruddy great big terrorist target, not just the Al-Qaeda folks, but the IRA before them. Hells, they've only relatively recently finished rebuilding Ealing Broadway area (20 minutes walk from my parents house) after a car bomb went off there a few years ago.
I'm glad that I went up to Central on Tuesday, rather than today...
