palfrey at 11:36pm on 05/06/2005Urrggh... keep having these LJ-holidays, which results in 300-odd posts to catch up on. Mainly 'cause I'm getting repeatedly buried in work. First thing that grabbed my time was the potato field, whose photos are now up. Lots of shots of small computers in tubes (including at least one that needs to get captioned as "they're coming right for us!"), complicated wiring for radio astronomy + radio telescopes (four-legged things), pics of media people doing media things and a heck of a lot of shots of green fields (there was more). My 40 photos (32 after removal of junk ones) is fairly restrained. Our resident postdoc Aline managed to take 431! Reasons why she has a 1Gb card in her camera.... I didn't get interviewed by the BBC person in the end (who was from Click Online), spoke to him briefly and then he seemed to spend most of the rest of his time kneeling in the potato field doing repeated talking head shots. They may eventually show this, but not yet.
Then we have the coursework. Did 3/4 of the Real-time Systems work in less than 24 hours, including setting up a RTAI-enabled kernel (advice: don't do this. It's hard), and just about made the deadline. Created my MSc thesis and presentation that afternoon. Well, I say "created", for that read convert a 19-page technical paper I did about 6 months ago into a 50-something page thesis (it's amazing what some minimal reformatting can do, and that's with *no* font size changes) and cobble together the presentation mostly out of an earlier presentation I did on the same topic before, plus one new slide with a graph on. Got that 20-slide/30-minute presentation to do on Monday. Shouldn't be a problem, I've done most of the presentation before after all.
More work, ho hum. Intending on coming back to UK at end of the month *probably* for about a month or so (got two weddings and my brothers graduation to turn up to at least), but any time beyond the aforementioned events is dependant on my getting my ass in gear re: c/w and getting it all sorted. There's a few current glitches there, more later...
