Remember that whole "sensor node" stuff I'm always talking about (heck, it's my research area), and always mentioning all these possible applications that always appear to be very much way off when? Well, we're actually deploying one next week. And apparently, there's going to be a couple of local TV stations, one national one, Radio 1 (Dutch one) and a bunch of print media. And as muggins here is the one who's done the most work in debugging the little bastards, I'm going to be there in case things go shit-shaped (despite my inability to speak Dutch to the media). This has "possible disaster" written all over it, or at least it did until thursday evening, when lots of things started to work....
The project in question is called LOFAR_Agro (somehow a sub-division of this LOFAR thing which is meant to be a enormous sodding telescope built out of lots of little ones scattered all over the Netherlands). The website is a bit inaccurate, but the basic idea is sound, and I can't be arsed repeating it. So, I get to go out to the lovely municipality of Borger-Odoorn, and plant computers.
We're going out on Tuesday, and the 3-ring circus commences at some point Wednesday. I'm bringing the camera, and will report back.
