I've just done something that I should either be cursed or commended for. Being stuck in an internet-less situation, as the router was being a PoS, I don't have admin rights (because I keep forgetting to ask), and as it wasn't responding to pings this probably wasn't going to be that helpful anyways. Power-cycling had been discarded as an option as it's locked in a housemate's room, but then I figured out a way around this: switch off anything that will object to being rudely switched off (i.e. my computer) and then switch the power off and on for the *entire* house. Kludgy, insane, yes. But I have my 'net connection back, so I don't really care.
Oh, and you would be seeing a 'friends default icon collage' thing below a cut here, but the server appears to be overloaded, and I really should be reading papers rather than writing my own version of it....

Elaborating on the Theme
"Just remember to reconnect the power lines to their correct junction points. Fun Tips: a) Have a friend watching for passing cop cars. b) ALWAYS wear insulating gear..."
(no subject)
A flatmate had a habit of falling asleep to deafening music. It was so loud that it would drown out any thumping on the door. I found the circuit breaker switch for that room (by trial and error), and labelled then labelled the ones that I'd tried: "Kitchen", "hallway", "Mark's stereo", etc..
