I've spent a lot of my weekend generally doing as little as possible, mostly due to DVD writer-related stress. Due to a variety of problems (you should always make sure your test media isn't a piece of shit before you use it to test things with), I've been generating a few coasters off of the darn thing. It *was* working ok, and then I think I upgraded the firmware after being recommended to do this by one review of it I'd read. Net result is it's now being annoying. Still burns CDRs and reads DVDs fine, but I haven't gotten a good DVD write out of it since I got back after New Year. *Many* other firmwares have been tried. If anyone's got a Benq DW1620 that they haven't firmware flashed, or can confirm working on a particular revision, then please tell me.

So, we move onto procastination. And a lot of sleep. This has resulted in my finding out such things as Ok Cupid now has someone listed as a 91% match for me. For those who don't know the site, it's a sort of dating/new friends/whatever site, revolving around lots of question asking, and lots of desparate males (hello me). Unlike most things of this nature, they don't even consider giving out the high numbers of percent matches until you've answered a *lot* of questions (I've answered 537 now, and 95% is still the max possible match number). So if you're a 91% match for someone, then you've probably got one or two things in common. Ok, she's 3600-and-something miles away (as always), but still. It gives me a bit of hope. The whole single thing does indeed generally suck dead slugs through a straw.

Other things found include finding out that fluffy kittens bombed Dresden in the war, which was a bit of a surprise.

I'd spotted that one a while back (being something of a quotes maniac, and having been pointed at bash.org at various points). Always reminded me of a passage from the online story "Jury Service" (http://www.scifi.com/scifiction/originals/originals_archive/stross-doctorow/stross-doctorow1.html)

"Here." He shoves something that resembles a bowl of blue ice-cubes at Huw. Huw pokes at one dubiously, then dunks it in his mug. "Hey, this stuff is organic, isn't it?"

"Only the best polymer-stabilized emulsions for Sandra," the joe says sardonically. "Of course it's organic—nothing but carbon, hydrogen, nitrogen, and a tinge of oxygen to them." Huw takes a sip. "Of course, you could say the same about your cellphone," adds the stranger.

Erm, why did no-one realise that whoever was being quoted on bash.org also couldn't count as there are distinctly 7 items there, which would mean that air gets left off entirely, probably the best thing in that case.
