(I suspect a high proportion of my friends list can name the thing that comes after that, but haven't had any in a while) Been somewhat lax on the LJ-updates since I've been back. Possibly just my getting back into the whole "hey, I'm not on dialup" thing. Have managed to do a few things this week. Submitted camera-ready copy to conference (after beating their buggy web-interface with a big stick). Did more things towards journal version of paper (more graphs, etc). Looked at flight costs to Dallas - not that bad afterall. Had a quick gander at Delta, United and BA. I've been thinking about spending some time elsewhere in the US after doing the conference, and my current thoughts are leaning towards getting a flight up to Washington, doing the whole tourist thing there for a day or two, then possibly seeing New York or something like that. Figure as I've never seen the US I might as well get to see some of the famous sites as I'm there. Delta costs for a Amsterdam->Dallas->Washington->Amsterdam flight set were cheaper than BA's Amsterdam<->Dallas, so this is looking pretty good from a budgetary viewpoint (in the sense that the Uni will pay to get me to/from the conference, and any additional is my problem). Plans still remarkably hazy, will get my shit in gear at some point.

Went to dinner at Niels' (my office mate). *Finally* got to see his new pad (he spent about a year doing it up). It's very cool. Close to Rotterdam city centre, but still pretty quiet. Weird kitchen tiles - they're laid out like bricks, which is somewhat unsettling the first time you see them. Saw a bit of Rotterdam (which I've never gotten around to seeing that much of despite it being a 10 minute train ride away). Found out about this girl that Niels has been persuing (has bf, but mixed signals, usual sort of dren). Turns out that's the reason he started smoking. Ended up at the cinema watching "The Butterfly Effect". Definately better than the trailer, but also a whole bunch more disturbing. Recommended film.

Finally watched "Shaun of the Dead" last night. Very cool... never saw at cinema due to being in the wrong country at the wrong time *twice*. Admittedly this is the legally dodgy DivX copy, but this is the sort of film that I will buy on DVD sooner or later. Worth it for good ones.

Things I should be doing: properly sorting out all my stuff from the move (it's been too long!). Things I am doing: Hacking stuff for Promood site, watching Buffy eps. Have got back into TV-watching, now that I'm back in a house with a TV in the living room + extensive Dutch cable (it's everywhere here). Two consecutive channels appear to have an evening schedule that only consists of: assorted Trek's, Buffy/Angel, Sex in the City, Friends, etc. It's all the old stuff, but that makes it so much more easier for me to just randomly sit down and watch 20 minutes of it (before the vast advert breaks kick in).

Will try and update a bit more often, so that I can avoid mega-posts like this one.
