Those of you that have been following my entries will be aware that I've been trying on and off to get out of Roland Holstlaan (the 21-story concrete monstrosity in which I currently live) for the last 10 months. This is not a simple thing, especially when we add in that I'd like to get back into a place with other people, as opposed to spending more time in lonely insanity. I'm taking this a bit more seriously now, given as I've only got until the end of September (i.e. 2.5 months give or take) to do this before they have a go at throwing me out of the shithole. I've been keeping a damn good eye on Duwo's "space in houses" list (given as that's the major source of advertised student house space), and spotted a good one earlier today. English language advert (which means I'm not totally out of place with my shitty Dutch), good amount of space, looking for a older sudent/PhD. Excellent. Price is a bit high, but that's only in comparism to the rest of here. It's still reasonable, and I can't be arsed being picky.
So, I went over there this evening for a "see the house" thing (note the lack of instemmings. Another point in it's favour). It's cool. Nice place, good area (5 minutes from here, but into quiet and leafy suburbia rather than next to the tram lines), nice housemates. The space is split between two rooms, but I'm not that fussed. My space requirements were a matter of storage for all my crap, rather than needing to have it all at literal arm's reach. They've got someone else coming to see it tommorrow, and I'll get a decision later this week. Moving into weekend of 1/8 if they choose me. I'm hopeful. I think it went pretty well. If all else fails, I've just gained the phone/email of two nice women, who have met me and didn't run off screaming, which for my first 24 hours back in the country I'd call a good omen. I'm still keeping an eye on the housing list, but I'm hopeful.
