I would like to go to the Edinburgh Comedy Festival this year. This is primarily targeted at the Bristol people, but anyone else reading this is welcome along (of course you'll have to deal with travel on your own).

Basic plan is as follows: Get a cheap-ass flight up there (Easyjet says ~ £50 for Bristol<->Edinburgh return in August) as driving up there is enough of a pain if you're just a passenger, so would like to avoid inflicting driving on anyone. We will be carrying basic camping equipment i.e. tent + clothes + other misc basics. Camp here (reviews, prices), which has both an on-site pub and a bus service to the centre of town :-). Spend the whole time going to shows, seeing all the weird shit that happens in Edinburgh over the festival, and generally having a ball. The festival runs from 8-30 August, and I have no real map of what's going on on any given day (full details won't be up until June 21st), but experience says if you go for a reasonable amount of time, that there will be stuff for everyone. It *will* be well worth your time.

I'd like to go for about a week, so let's say the week 9-15 August. So what's the costs?
Camping = £15.25 * 7 = £106.75 (exorbiant high-season prices, but that's a per-tent cost, so if you're doing fun things like sharing a tent it'll cost you less)
Travel = Variable, depending on times of day and Easyjet's bizarre pricing scheme, but calling it £50-75 is reasonable.
Show costs = depends on what you want to see. I paid £10 last time to see Rory Bremner, but most other things will cost you a lot less, and there's a lot of good things at low prices. There's also a whole bunch of free stuff. Remember that we can go and see different things, so costs here will vary on an individual basis. Not really sure in other words.
Food/Drink/other misc = The most hazily planned bit (just about). I'm all for the "find the weird fringe places to eat" option (or just Edinburgh's many bars), but doing things like making packed lunches in the mornings is probably also a nice idea.

So we're talking basic costs of up to £175, plus food, drink and shows. These plans are of course subject to change, and improved suggestions are welcomed. Also, I've got a tent, so this appeals to me, but others may not. Offers of tents would also be nice. Comments/willing participants?

Yeah, sounds good.

All depends on work of course (ie. whether I actually have a job - and if so, then whether I can take a week off then).

But, potentially, I'm up for it.

God, I hate camping, but I'm sure I can live with it for a week.

If you can find housing in Edinburgh over the festival season where the cost is less than arm+leg+limb-of-your-choice, I'd like to see it... camping is the only sane housing option AFAIK.

I'd love to go but i fear it will clash with work experiance/revision and all the other stuff - so i'll let you lot go without me and rent out sam's room while he's gone (*giggles*)

I may see you there, but I'll only be there for a weekend as I won't be able to take the whole week of work. Damn job.
