(I need better titles, and it's a reference from a Charles Stross story. If [livejournal.com profile] just_a_monkey can reference the Fruit Fucker, then I'm going to reference good online stories. Duckspeak, but *improved*)

I should have gone out to the AEGEE thing tonight, but I'm too tired. I've got an (almost) 5-day weekend coming up, so I've got some sleeping time. The "almost", is because I'm still going to be in on Friday, but I suspect as the cafeteria is closed, and given that we've got the Ascension (thursday) and Whitmonday (monday. probably not called "whitmonday" by the Dutch, but can't remember their name for it) as both public holidays, it's not going to be exactly strenuous. I should (and probably will spend some time on) revising for the Dutch course. The final test is next Thursday. I suspect I'm likely to fail, which isn't exactly motivating, but OTOH I do have another chance in a couple of weeks, so hopefully I'll make it by then.

However, I'm also liable to just spend time working on the news proggie. Expect a release over the weekend, as hopefully it'll get to the point at which I can actually use it (which is when it gets released). Oh, and on that it doesn't have a name yet. Thoughts on names for a news program, that uses RSS, OPML and some fun things with trees and python? Ideas people, or we're gonna have another name like "Comics Grabber" or "Image Gallery". Winning entry gets bought a drink if I ever actually see you IRL.

I've got one that combines OPML and trees... kinda.

OPiuMLeaf.

I think it's a funky name, although the weird capitals might make it look kinda l33t. Oh... and it has absolutely zero relevance to news. I suppose you could have a full title of...

OPiuMLeaf News *err...* Program.

Something a bit snappier on the end. Then you can use pretty poppies as the logo.

How about,

OpiumLeaf: The News of the masses

:) Yay! The project is now officially titled "OpiumLeaf" (I'm not a particular fan of the weird caps that would properly explain the name, that's an FAQ entry), with the full title being the whole "OpiumLeaf: The News of the masses" thingie (bonus points for Karl Marx references is a good thing).

I officially declare that I owe both [livejournal.com profile] _imran_ and [livejournal.com profile] just_a_monkey a drink of their choice whenever I next see them.

Woot... I rock! I agree that dropping the capitals makes it better. OpiumLeaf... it rolls off the tongue and the monitor so nicely.

Vampire Bats from Beyond Spacetime

Does Dracula fly? What about Tweety?

I think that Opium Leaf or some variation of that is a great title. Lets face it, it cannot possibly be worse than "GNU HURD".

And I quote from the story
Next on was a gangling youth named Curtis in baggy shorts, baseball cap, and iguana. (It was green, about half a metre long, and sat placidly on his shoulder throughout the talk.) Curtis talked very fast indeed about the fractal dimensionality of the universe as measured using the Genocide Mechanics' new beat-wave petatron and some really eldritch decay paths they scoped out in a quark-gluon plasma when they cranked it up high enough to fuse the power supply. "I tell ya, at first I thought it was the drugs, man, but then I realized it was the bats. The vampire bats from beyond spacetime." He was talking about a fractal map they derived for a scalar field decay process; and it did look sort of like a bat, if you squinted at it by the light of a lava lamp after smoking too much dope.

OpiumLeaf is a good name. Does mean I'll probably never go fully mainstream, but oh well. It *sounds* good, which is important. I always vageuly liked HURD, the explanations behind the name at least fit with the program in question, but the explanations were a *bit* too complex. OpiumLeaf is much nicer.
