NB: title has zero to do with content (as is so often the case). It's just a line from Green Day's "Minority" which is a kick ass song I'm listening to right now as I start this. I've been listening to a few odd bits and pieces of music these last few days (wanted to try and get the word epsilon into the last 3 words before the bracket, but couldn't... conversation today re: possible other name for one of the rooms in MVB (Merchant Venturer's building, home of CS ppl ehre in Bristol) which is called 0.01, which spawned that idea floating around in my head).
Other songs these last few (days, weeks, months)
DJ Kool - Let Me Clear My Throat : was actually on someone's "punk" compilation being played on Saturday, but the owner of said pointed out that there was no good reason why it was on a punk record, as it's not punk.
Sleater Kinney - Oh : this is such a cool song, I'm gonna have to actually *buy* their album with this one on, just in case they've done more stuff like it
Alkaline Trio - Private Eye: just a nice song, that turns out to be about drinking.
I'm in a weird-ass state right now. My mind is picking up links to everything I'm doing, I can feel a set of connections from each thing to a bunch of other things. For example
1) First paragraph of this rant/sprawl has a nested bracket - most "normal" ppl don't do this, but CS do, prolly 'cause we're used to the concept of nesting, where as mundanes get confused with multiple closing brackets
2) Writing that last point got me into CS-type thoughts, like why ... bugger lost that thought. Stack overflow! (yes, well. not my original idea, but close enough. CS has a *culture* that other subjects don't appear to have. extensive jargon and meta-jargon for example. And the use of meta-....)
3) My use of shorthand and corruptions of words. CS = Computer Scienc(e/tists), prolly = probably, ehre (as used in 1st paragraph) - accidental misspelling of here, which i have decided I like. mundanes = ppl without a given skill/ability, context-dependant. in this context, non-CS.
Figured out my 2) point... i could have re-written there, but decided to keep the natural flow of this. my thought was "why didn't I start numbering my points from 0, rather than 1?". a very CS-thought, related to programming. one of the things listed on some geek rel'ship guide i read recently was a sign of a geek household - video tapes are numbered starting with 0. on that note, my parents are both trained librarians, and the videos at home are alphabetized and getting catalogued....
Weird ass mood. fugsickles.
