Palfrey's life

There's a bunch of stuff I want to write down on LJ - things like detailing my attempts to get a rug on my bike, and my love for Ikea as a stable reference point in my changed life these days. This stuff will get written, as and when I'm feeling a bit less shitty (sniffles/major sore throat/general crappiness). LJ is now something I feel a *need* to write things on, to write down my history so that I don't forget it. Am glad that others read all of this, but mostly this is for my benefit. I spent a while yesterday reading my entire archives. I'm glad its mostly there, and with those memories as keys, I can remember most of everything I didn't write down as well - which isn't much, but it's important anyways.

One other thing I'm detailing these days is the random shite that's floating in my head - example being Konfabulator - for OS X, but there's also Gdesklets for Gnome desktops and Karamba for KDE. Now, I'd like to be able to write a converter for the OS X stuff ('cause there's a lot of it), but unfortunately it's all distributed as .dmg files. Apple, proving themselves to be the greedy fuckers I know they are (have always felt their whole "we're open source!" thing is pure marketing) have refused to distribute the source to the tool that can manipulate .dmg files (hdiutil). Now, releasing the source to this tool would result in greater interoperability with other OSes, but would probably reduce Apple's bottom line by roughly *nothing*. Evil fuckers.... yeah, I know, I can guess a few ppl will complain re: my Apple-related bitching, but they're basically the same bunch of greedy fuckers as Microsoft, just they haven't got the market share to get away with as much shit. That's my opinion and I'm sticking to it. Being as I am, someone who is very happy with a combination of an woody/sid Debian box with Gnome 2.4. It's nice, it's fast, I work well with it. I was beginning to slip, and thinking about liking OS X (on the whole "combination of unix + easy to use" marketing crap), but this has all reminded me why I have no intention to join the cult of Apple.

In other news, part of me is a bit worried/excited. I think I'm starting to gain some sort of interest in Kate. A combination of talking to her a bit this week over IM's, the possiblities between her and sam dying (heard story "straight from the horses mouth" so to speak), she's just got glasses (damnit... and she's been told about my preferences. I have a distinct feeling she may try manipulating this at new years, mostly just for the hell of it, and because she might find it amusing, and I may have try something...), and the whole thing re: me and gwen has stopped (which probably would have got in the way of things with Kate, even though the Gwen stuff was just pissing around). My timing here sucks massively. Most annoying thing here is that you guys are basically the only ppl I have to share my thoughts with right now, and so it's kinda stewing and brewing a bit. Quite a lot of me hopes she gets it together with *anyone* else before new years, but on past history, I'd bet against it. Crap. As usual, welcome to my fucked up emotional life.

1:20am - I've just let her back into this. Maybe it's the right idea, maybe this is a really bad idea, but I can't hide at this point. Damnit. Had a feeling they'd find out about LJ sooner or later. My LJ life has been separated off from that social group until now. Now that's changed. Time will tell I guess)
