Rules: You are supposed to write a note with 25 random things, facts, habits, or goals about you.
Yes, the Facebook folk have discovered memes (public entries here get cross-posted there), and this has even caused articles from respected outlets. OTOH, it's one that doesn't suck too bad, and I think I might actually have a few things to say. Given I'm actually speaking here to a great many people, who have known me at a fairly wide variety of different times in my life, you probably know at least a few of these, but I'd be surprised if anyone knows all of them.
1. I was born in Hammersmith Hospital (a location I've never lived in), approximately 3 weeks early (my mother had pre-eclampsia).
2. The two "proper" medical procedures I've ever had in my life were both described as plastic surgery and were both performed on the NHS (removal of two cysts)
3. A couple of things scare the crap out of me: Dogs (which most people know), and climbing walls. I get a few feet up and then just freeze. It's not a height thing, as I can happily abseil down pretty big walls.
4. I'm a holder of both the British Canoe Union 1* and Duke of Edinburgh Silver Awards.
5. I was a Cub Scout "young leader" for about 2.5 years.
6. Only two films have made me cry: Armageddon and the Babylon 5 TV movie "In the Beginning". Both have in common a point where the characters have done *everything* and then some, and they're still going to die.
7. I'm a contributor to the Gnome project, primarily as part of the BugSquad, and have currently closed 10,956 bugs as part of this.
8. I learnt how to tell left from right by a birthmark on the inside of my left elbow.
9. I learnt words first, then letters, mainly by repeatedly asking my parents "what does that say?"
10. I have random amateur interests in theoretical linguistics and non-standard economics (see for example recent post, and also non/post-scarcity models).
11. I own an estimated 400-500 books (350-odd have been catalogued), and somewhere over 70 t-shirts.
12. I was a Mensa member for ~2 years from about 12 years old. It's very, very boring. The "Young Mensans" magazine was vaguely interesting though, and they did somehow give me a free membership for the second year (hence why I wasn't a member for just a year).
13. I like the game "Go", but don't play enough of it.
14. I have a significant webcomics habit (70-odd being watched with software aids at it's height). There's lots of candidates for favourite (Schlock Mercenary, xkcd, Something Positive, etc) but I think the winner has to be Narbonic, which I will be buying the complete run of the moment Volume 6 comes out...
15. I intend to live, well possibly not *forever*, but certainly a *very* long time. Current wish is 300-400 years and then I think I'll re-evaluate my options.
16. Despite having a PhD in wireless systems, I spent ~2.5 years in the middle of it without a mobile phone.
17. I have a crazy plan of writing a computer game for the Xbox Community Games program (I actually have an idea, a plan how to make it and *everything*. Well, aside from enough free time to get it done...)
18. I can quote most of the Red Dwarf episode "White Hole". Sitting me in front of a TV with this on will result in my saying the words along with the characters for pretty much the whole thing (especially after I've had a drink or two, as in the last time this was tried...)
19. I like Anime in various forms. Mostly of the ninjas/mecha variety, although I was very fond of Fruits Basket and Onegai Teacher.
20. I've had my own website for over 10 years, and have long ago lost track of how many different email addresses I've used over the years (hence the acquiring of the tevp.net domain so I can avoid having to tell everyone my new address every year or two).
21. I used to be a fan of (and contributor to) Everything2, but after they deleted a beautiful poem called "What else could make a light so bright?" (about the opening milliseconds of a nuclear explosion), I no longer contribute. I plan one day to reconstruct something that will be at least a homage to the lost work.
22. I've now been blogging on Livejournal for over 6 years, with currently 784 entries.
23. I've never taken any of the "illegal" drugs (even when I was living in a country where I could have done so legally). I've also never smoked a cigarette (or any other form of tobacco).
24. I once got head-butted by a horse (short version: he won the staring contest).
25. I've never managed to watch 2001 all the way the way through, although I liked the book (and its sequels).
