For someone who doesn't really drink beer, I appear to have consumed a fair amount of it recently. While still recovering from the fall off of my bike on Monday (which appears to now be more damaging than previously thought, as the left side of my back *still* hurts), I've actually managed to have something resembling a social life this week. From having not had a drink since my birthday (so that's almost 3 weeks) to drinking both friday and last night. Friday was Promood things - first their AGM, then their inaugral once-monthly PhD drinkies at Het Lagerhuysch. I appear to have discovered a taste for the Gulpener Korenwolf. For those that haven't seen this beer before, you may spend a little while trying to work out what Korenwolf means, then it turns out to literally translate to "corn wolf", and then you realise that the little pic on the front is in fact a hamster. I'm fairly sure that hamsters are just a logo thing, and not one of the ingredients.

We then wandered onto Kloisters, which is one of the two bars in Delft with a 'beer menu' i.e. they have so many different beers that they need a book-like menu to list all of them. However in contrast to the other one (which is called Locus Publicus), this one seems to change their menu on a regular basis, and every time I go in there I find something that I really like that's either new or simply very unexpected. This time was no exception, with my spotting the lovely Newton apple beer which I hadn't seen since the Belgian beer festival about a year ago.

Then we have Saturday, and wandering out to Den Haag with some other foreign students from the Dutch language course, Piotr and Matthias, along with a Dutch friend of Piotr's whose name I can't remember. We spent some time in the lovely named 'Paard van Troje' (Trojan Horse) - which turns out to have a podium-thingie next door which has a whole bunch of bands playing there (Kosheen for example at the beginning of March) so I may well have to go back there. Much more Korenwolf was consumed before wandering further into the city. More bar time, more chatting, etc, etc. Lots of fun, lots of dodgy jokes. We eventually made it back to the Centraal station, where I mostly managed to order in a Burger King in Dutch (hey we were hungry and had about 40 mins to kill before the next night train...), which I'm surprised that it appeared to mostly work despite my fairly drunk state.

And now to recovering, and watching B5 series 5....
