Ok, I got very bored, and decided to check out the
LJ user support forum. Specifically, users enter support requests, and then anyone can enter screened responses. The admins then unscreen one of the responses with the answer to the question. Now, this isn't vastly difficult for a lot of things (5 requests in a row with variants on "how do I delete my journal" answered with pointing them at the relevant FAQ entry), but there's the whole translation problem - took me a few seconds to realise what a "PICHTERS PROBEBLM" was. Oh, and "HELP ME PLZ! ITS URGANT!!! THNX!!!! PLZ! HELP!" (I kid ye not, that's the current most recent support request title) should result in an immediate
larting with thermonuclear weaponry, even if you are 13.
OTOH, there are a few actually quite nice ones. Someone wanted the dictionaries for
Semagic, but was having problems connecting to the main site it goes to, so I gave them a list of 6 different mirror sites that also have the dictionaries. Someone asking "How do u get friends?" got a bunch of hints regarding bugging your offline friends and joining communities.
Net result of all this philanthropy? I get to see a little "
Support points: 1" on my
expanded userinfo. Karmic down-payments. Yay.
