I've had a vaguely productive day off. Ok, I spent a lot of it sleeping, but OTOH I've managed to get rid of all my sleep debt for once, which is a good thing. Even I probably won't rebuild that much before the weekend. The awake hours I've spent working on OpiumLeaf, which is now in a pretty good state. It happly reads in OPML, RSS, etc, shoves them into a tree, displays said tree + list of entries for currently selected branch/leaf, displays entries, everything good. I've even found the unicode bugs (blasted M$ smartquotes....), and I *had* image display working, but it's now broken again while I attempt caching. Most of the complicated things with caching work fine, but I think between wx.MemoryFSHandler and wx.html.HtmlWindow there's a bit of disagreement, which I'm still working on....

Other today things:

• Dandy and Company has come up wth the ultimate sci-fi bad-guy weapon - a retcon cannon.


• I had a bit of an argument regarding the use of biscuit/cookie (NB: don't comment there, I'd like that argument to stay dead now).


• Got sent an album by some new band/singer called "Lazenby" off of my good mate Ken, who's just had some member of a band she was supporting sleeping in his front room. It's kinda jazz/soul. Pretty good stuff.

The song is appropriate, but not so. I think i've just done it again. I build all these imaginary scenarios in my head, and then somewhere along the line part of me forgets they're just smoke and mirrors, and starts to believe in them. Then something happens, something that breaks the chirpy little fantasy, and suddenly I crash. Heck, in this case AFAIK nothing has actually happened yet, but certain things have combined that are enough to break the fantasy, and to send me into this fucking irritating downward spiral. For all I know, I'm grabbing the whole wrong end of the stick, but I'm willing to bet that even if I'm wrong it's still a wakeup call.

Go and have your post-exam fun people, I would never begrudge you that, but I think that's partially what's set me off. I've got a weekend consisting of programming on pet projects, watching Voyager and revising for the Dutch exam. Some of that is things I enjoy doing, but I'd rather be out with people, I'd rather be out doing crazy shit that I'll probably regret a little bit when the photos go up on the web, but that'll I'll still do nonetheless. *Sigh* I *really* need to get this sorted out at some point. Wallowing in self-pity sucks :-(
