I'm in a totally scrambled mood. Can't keep my concentration on much for more than a couple of minutes. Bored with DB design work, initial deadline was tonight, but fuck it. I've done a bunch of it, and the rest is just boring, it's not really hard at all. I'm tempted to work on the next c/w first, as that's at least a programming project, something I might be able to get my teeth into.

Also fucking around with wxWindows and a text control in that that's based around Scintilla, so I can get around to designing my text editor - something that does everything exactly how I like it (i.e. roughly an EditPlus clone), but in Linux the same as Windows, which is what all the other's don't do. There's some damn good Windows text editors, but none of them have Linux versions, and all of the Linux ones are either notepad on steriods (gedit, nedit, et al) or they're Emacs-type things that have all the features I want, but not designed how I like i.e. no tabs along the top, no Ctrl-Tabbing. All the little things I'm used to, all the stuff I want in a programmers text-editor. Means I can put together what I want, and keep it across platforms. Might be finally able to switch to Linux if I write this tool. Something else to do when I've actually got some damn time..

Need to email Koen (dude in Holland that is offering the PhD project I want), and tell him about myself, but can't concentrate. Am going to sleep soon, 'cause can't do much right now. Eating (4 plums and some flapjack) and drinking tea is about everything I can concentrate on, so just gonna try and sleep (or at least lie in bed and read "The Cassini Division" again)

I finally got my copy of "Schild's Ladder" by Greg Bear today. It's very cool, very hard science sci-fi, my kinda thing.

It's also got a wonderful answer to one of the things asked of transhumanists every so often. Every so often, some deranged non-transhumanist tries to get a significant chunk of the transhumanist community (anything from a mailing list to the whole WTA) to promise not to start converting every bit of matter we can into "computronium" (rough element-like name for matter converted to be the most efficient computing substrate possible) the moment that this is possible. For various reasons, we're not going to promise this - everything from we probably wouldn't as it's morally objectionable, to we can promise anything *now* but this means nothing later....

The answer was "To which I can only reply: why haven't you indolent fleshers converted the entire galaxy into chocolate?". ROFLMAO. Unfortunately, I now need to try and explain this to ppl, as it won't make much sense to most ppl I know IRL......
