(Long rant)

I really should be doing AI revision, but instead I appear to be spending some time thinking about whether it's possibly to throw technological resources at a social problem of mine - shared by some others as well, so maybe worth exploring. (Note that the generally simpler idea is to just fix the social problem directly, but a) I'm a geek so the tech option is probably easier and more fun and b) the social problem is one i've been struggling with for years)

So what's the problem, and why am I thinking about this? The problem is this: At various points in my life I have met interesting people (generally of the female persuasion) and I would like to continue talking (possibly other activities, but let's start with the talking) to these ppl at a future point, having just spent 20+ minutes talking to them. Now, as in the case that happened last Thurs (see last post), I don't even know her name (this seems to happen to me way too often), I have minimal info, and basically without using up a lot of time and emotional capital (neither of which I have in great supply right now) I won't be able to find her.

[livejournal.com profile] raygungothic in our discussion after my last post suggested wearing a t-shirt with my blog addy on or something. I write a lot of stuff here, a lot I don't discuss generally with most ppl I deal with on a day-to-day basis, I use LJ heavily as something to shout at, rather than repeatedly pissing off everyone around me. As such, I don't want to really put my blog address on a t-shirt, but I'd like to provide some way to let ppl who I meet IRL to easily find me again (if they want to, I'm making some possibly unfounded assumptions here....). Thoughts include some sort of unique id name/number that can be typed into a site to get minimal contact info on someone, which could be then put on a badge or something that I would wear on a bag or somewhere, making me much more findable.... ideas related to the business card that Hiro Protagonist gives to YT in Snow Crash popped up at some point (note: off-topic slightly, I'm *not* making that sort of card to give to ppl) - the whole concept there of Hiro needing contact info for several different electronic communities puzzled me then, I thought you'd just need email addy... but I'm logged onto 4 different IM systems right now, plus email and LJ... wow things change.

Ok, back to the rant. One thinking was that you make the badge that would go on the bag somewhat smart - i.e. wireless stuff to pick up other badges and automagically record contact details for others, with some way to tag a contact info as "that's the one i want to talk to" by pushing a button or something. The nodes that Delft has with an teeny-tiny LCD display and a button added would work quite well methinks - ack... applying discovery protocols to women - I'm a hideous geek, and I know it....

K, I really should just solve the social problem somehow and have asked for some random lump of contact detail from her, or hope wildly that I'll run into her again... this is irritiating. Better than AI revision right now tho....
