Palfrey's life

In common with most landlords, mine's basic role in life is to get as much money out of us as possible with the minimum amount of effort. However, today took it to a new level. We've been on the search for a new housemate after the departure of Sabine at the beginning of May, and we'd had a bit of luck with a new advert actually turning up a number of candidates, including a Thai guy called Jirat. Now, somehow I'd gotten volunteered into being the one who was there while Jirat signed a housing contract this morning (note the distinct lack of the landlord actually being there), and I just needed to make sure that the deposit (which hadn't been previously mentioned) was all ok with him before he signed. Turns out that he wanted to start from 1st June, not 1st July, to which I'm fairly sure my landlord's reponse will not be a happy one. I somehow don't have the numbers either for Guus, or for the landlord, and so I'm left there feeling in a bit of a crappy situation, trying to balance my wishes for this to get over and done with vs. all the random considerations here. Gah. I'm not the fricking landlord, I shouldn't be doing this, Ming should have gotten off of his bloody arse and be here to deal with this...

On the plus side, having spoken to Guus, apparently there's someone else who wants the room just for June, so we may have a solution, but still not a fun morning.
