I'm now in the hotel in San Diego, and will soon be getting to the serious bits of this trip (read: bits that pay for the other bits). However, I've managed to have what can be counted as *easily* the most memorable and fun experience of my trip so far in my last day of New York. I'd heard about the Halloween parade, and there had been some talk with [livejournal.com profile] lauren_joy and a few pics of costume teasers, and then somehow the plan materialised for me to go along to the parade. I then spent most of the day randomly wandering around trying to find various bookshops (with little luck), and then a bit of time going nuts trying to get into the Metro system (why have entrances that only let you go *one* way on a line...?), and so I was feeling pretty happy at having gotten to see more of NY this time, but the feeling was at the time that all my various "big" plans (e.g. CuddleParty) hadn't worked out, and this was a bad thing. This sometimes happens with me - a big thing doesn't quite register until I'm in the middle of it.

Then we got to the parade. Oh, hell yes. In short, it's a parade. Floats, people in costume, the full nine yards. But (and here's the fun bit) I'm betting that the majority of you have never actually been one of those people walking the route. You see these things, you watch for a while and think "that's cool", but nothing compares to actually being in one of these things, to walking the walk so to speak. It was utterly brilliant, and I am *so* glad I went along. It rocked. [livejournal.com profile] lauren_joy has some shots up here and I've got a stack of about 35 to stick up myself once I've got the gallery back up. Also have a leaflet from the "Centre for Zombie Control" that's probably getting scanned in at some point. Thanks guys.

Other random items: Apparently one of the many people with my name has done a version of something called "Teilwng yw'r Oen", which is apparently the "Welsh language rock Messiah", and I'm being confused for the composer. Does anyone else get these "are you that $YOUR_NAME" emails?

More items: [livejournal.com profile] lauren_joy/[livejournal.com profile] nref - I have your Mexican wrestler mask, and the ransom for it's safe return is... your postal address so I know where to send it.

I'm now in the area of the states (San Diego to be exact) that uses palm trees like sane climates use oak trees, so I think I'm going to head out and get some food.
