The Edge magazine asked a whole bunch of important people "What's your law" ("That is the Law. Are we not Men?", etc, etc). I liked Brian Eno's responses:
Eno's First Law: Culture is everything we don't have to do
Eno's Second Law: Science is the conversation about how the world is. Culture is the conversation about how else the world could be, and how else we could experience it.
Started watching Ultraviolet - not to spoil things too much, but we've got vampires in modern day settings (someone's worked out you can kill them with carbon bullets, rather than the full stake, so one of them wears a flak jacket), and a death-sequence that's way better than anything out of Buffy et al. It's all very cool. Pity they only made 6 episodes...
