Went to the University of Twente today - they have some ppl there doing some similar work to ours, and so there's a project called Consensus, which has a meeting every so often to share stuff. I'm not actually part of that project, but the meetings are useful for me, and I add stuff as well, so I'm there anyways. The meetings are a bit broader than just the project members.

Overall project stuff is Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs). We had a number of presentations, starting with mine (laptop interfaced well with beamer! yay!). "Statistical Approaches to Localization in Ad-hoc WSNs". Try saying that in one go. Not my best presentation, but I think it went well, despite the fact it's a bit of a WIP still. Working on that, got a few new ideas (esp. re: the red triangles representing nodes with *no* location info). Presentations on DCOS (a new hard real-time data-centric OS, looks pretty cool), TinyDB (which led me to coin, in paraphrase of Zawinsky's Law, "All WSN projects attempt to expand until they develop a new MAC protocol". FFS... low-level network protocols should not be resolved *every* time you think of a new app), pointless supposedly-cross-layer optimisations on EMACs (not the editor, *another* MAC protocol. And does wonderful in apples-to-oranges comparisms against SMAC), etc.

Not a bad day, gained a few new ideas, looking forwards to when DCOS puts itself onto sourceforge. And I got to see a new city (sort of. saw the uni)

Mm... have *complete* set of DS9 eps now!

(edit: added some links, figured it looked a bit bare w/o)
