I haven't written anything here in a while. I think my major reasons consist of being too busy, and not being in a frame of mind conducive to blogging. (I also got informed by [livejournal.com profile] kittiewitch last night that I now have something resembling an audience, but for me that doesn't really matter. I'd still mention whatever I want to say... but more on that later)

Ok, major events (or at least things of note in the last few)

1) Have now finished all of the 1st semester work, and now on the 2nd semester stuf.... which mostly consists of my final year project, and trying to get a PhD. Once I've better thought out the idea I currently have for the latter, I may well post it up here.

2) Big-ass conversation over on extro-brit (Extro-britannia, a mailing list that is technically described as being for british extropians, but there's not enough of them yet really, so it's a random group of british transhumanists instead, which fits me well) which was set off by myself watching the first Animatrix short, and ended up as a discussion of the portrayal of artificial intelligence in popular media, as well as the right/wrong of use of less than sentient life i.e. (when) is it right? everything from eating them, to the destruction of the robots in the Flesh Fair scene in A.I. - which I regard as being somewhat sickening, but my gut feelings say something different, which is basically what set off the conversation. (If you don't understand why the two are related, then get your fucking head out of the sand and think about it. Intelligence is not an emergent property of carbon)

3) Enormous scale pissup on Friday (Valentines day), mostly because a bunch of us single ppl decided we needed a proper, serious pissup, and I was the organiser of this motley bunch. So we start with 3 hours of drinking games in the Epi (with myself wearing a hat proclaiming me as "Drinkmaster General"). One of the ground rules was no saying drink, drunk or drank, so when I'm trying to explain drinking games, this got me somewhat plastered. Good games of 21's, centipede, and disassociation resulted in some very merry ppl.... At kick-out time from the Epi, ended up in Le Chateau (vague memories of dancing, alcohol nuking my brain cells at this point), then went to Academy (never been there before, was doing a cool indie night called something beginning with R that I can't remember....).

Academy has a metal detector on it's front door, which was a barrel of laughs. Took me quite a while to remember the large lump of MP3-playing hardware in my jacket pocket... d'oh! Jenny snogged Ed, which sets the thought running that she's attempting to work her way through our entire group. This might be malicious, based on the fact that she's Rob's cousin, Rob being still moping about his single status ever since his ex went back to America. Get the fuck over it, and stop being a freaking doormat!!! (Rob, don't break various bits of my anatomy if you ever read this. You know what I'm going on about) Ah, fuck it. SEP. Also ran into Susanna and Nick, who turn out to be acting in a panto the next night....

4).. and so to the events of last night (or Panto and the aftermath). I'd been invited along to the free production of Aladdin in the Union. It was lots of fun, and I turned out to know large numbers of ppl both in cast and audience, and so got invited back to the after-show party. I was still suffering somewhat from the events of the previous night, and so wasn't drinking. Talked to various ppl (I can remember a few names, which is unusual for me, but you know who you are). Various ppl managed to get off with one another (including Susanna and Alex, which makes me glad I introduced them about half an hour earlier....). I ended up somewhat depressed (being sober in a bunch of drunken ppl will sometimes do that to you...), and decided to go home. After a conversation with Susanna and Alex about music to get you in/out of depressing moods, and getting invited to some random party at a later point by a someone random called Polly (email addy that starts pollyangel , which had me thinking many angels, or a conglomeration of angels? Random detritus of back of my mind), I travelled homewards.

I knew at this point that I'd managed to forget my housekeys, which left me a bit up shit creek, and hoping I could wake a housemate or two. No such luck... after ~1 1/4 hours of knocking on the door, ringing the doorbell, thinking about how to break in, and freezing my nuts off, I decided to try the next nearest ppl I knew. Rang on Sam H's door (3 mins walk away) for ~5 mins, then started walking back to my house. Ran into Olivia & Jack (some of Sam's housemates), and after moving some road signs with them, crashed out on bits of their sofas. Got back this morn, having vaguely slept.

That's most of it, rest might go up after I write amendments to Sci-fi constitution.... I'm less pissed off by now, but I still can't find my fucking keys. I think they've dropped down the side of my bed or something....
