It's been a relaxed couple of weeks. I don't have any real deadlines at this point (next paper deadlines are early September), and both the Thurs/Fri before last weekend and today were holiday days here (the Dutch and their wacky vice-like grip on Easter-related days. Go figure), so I've had a fair amount of time to kick back and get myself into a good place before the insanity kicks back in again. One of the things I've done is going to the festival/promotional event for the Sports and Cultural Centre at the uni. I learnt the following:
  • I may wish to signup for an "introduction to ceramics" (making things with clay) class come September.

  • Black-and-white shots of cannons firing are cool, and I have a lead on getting a hold of the relevant photographer so I can get a print...

  • Taking random Shakespeare - Romeo and Juliet for example - translating in into Dutch, and then feeding it through the medium of experimental interpretative dance is an odd experience.

  • Garden State is a fun film. For those of have ever seen any of Scrubs (and you should have), take J.D. (same actor, remarkably similar character) and then give him drugs, death and Natalie Portman. At certain levels it's nothing original - quarter-century angst and all that jazz, but I like it.

  • The Dutch can do Rocky Horror (or at least a few of the songs). Seeing someone singing the words "creature of the night" in bright mid-afternoon sunshine is somehow wrong.

In work news, various things that have been stressing me for far too long are starting to work out. Hence another reason for the relaxation. I am currently attempting to remember this time in preparation for the evil times to come (I also ordered said t-shirt just in case).
