Palfrey's life

It's been another one of those weeks. Having a social life again is taking it out of me. Admittedly also most of it is also eating bits of my supposed holiday time, but given that I never seem to take very much of it, it's not a problem yet. That may well however change. I've applied to the AEGEE Summer University thing, and may well be spending parts of my July/August either wandering around Scandinavia or a large block of Central Europe. I should get the preliminary results back on that on Monday.

I spent Wednesday afternoon playing Go. Turns out there's actually a Delft Go club that I didn't know about, and they decided to set up a little tournament. I didn't do that well (second from last - partially because we're still trying to figure out what my ranking is within the weird variants of the normal Go ranking that they use around here), but I learned a lot, and hopefully I'll get better next time. Also met another one of the series of cute-women-with-outside-Delft-boyfriends (and a fellow CS PhD student), and managed to persuade her into watching the screening of Serenity that was being shown by the faculty student society that evening (despite her never having seen any of the TV series before). Always good to get to meet new people, especially given that there's never enough communication even just within the different Computer Science groups here.

And then tommorow I'm in Groningen and Drenthe with the local AEGEE bunch. Been there before, but enjoyed it last time so I'm going again.... Oh, and I ran into the cute german girl again while getting myself signed up for that, but as I really wasn't in the mood to stick around (having had a long day already, and given as I was only in De Ruif in order to make sure I had one of the places on the minibuses), I basically said hi and disappeared again. Harumph. Oh well.

Last thing before I go - our Pakistani housemate ain't coming back. Apparently some friends of his will be around this weekend to pick up the remnants of his stuff, and hopefully someone will query them and find out what the heck actually happened. There are rumours he got married, but we're fairly sure the only way that would have happened would have been an arranged marriage.
