Palfrey's life

(I'm briefly worried: I think I've used that title before) Having been off-LJ for what feels like forever, but turns out to be more like 5 days, and having gone into a marathon session ending up at ?skip=400, if you've said anything really important that you feel I need to see, please tell me now. Some of you will have seen a few random comments popping up while I've been doing that.

So what have I been doing? Nothing particularly time-consuming in the day work. More persusading small computers not to die after 2 hours. Brief bit of panic earlier: "why is mattias bugging me so much about the presentation? oh yeah. it's tommorrow". Cue some rapid paper reading and a presentation on Static Branch Prediction.
Other things of note: got random IM from raspberrysalmon, who (in addition to being exactly the same age as me, as in same-darn-day exact) is an exceptionally cool person, and someone who should be much welcomed to the various collectives/cliques/etc. I knew it was a pretty good day, but coincidence is still an odd thing. C'est la vie.

And as it's built up (no, not stricly a meme. Well, not one of the standard ones), some MLP

• Firefox users (and if not, why not?) - Greasemonkey is useful. And a source of procrastination.
  
• Programmers: see these demos of using C#, Java and Boo in one program... That's pretty damn impressive. And also non-toy. I'd been considering using Boo for a while (think Python, but with semi-static typing and faster), and I may well have to try this now..
  
• 50 things not allowed to do at Hogwarts - in the same theme as "The 213 Things Skippy Is No Longer Allowed To Do In The U.S. Army", here's a Harry Potter version (and all of it's appendices)
  
• The Man has another story, this time about Hypatia and a great alternate world (about half-way down)
  
• vault13 comes up with another thing, this time something I thought was from HL2. And others agree with me. Scary.
