I tend to think of dogs as barely domesticated wolves with a desire to separate me from bits of my anatomy (especially the little yappy ones - I can keep my fear *mostly* in check up until dogs bark). They terrify the crap out of me, and I regularly have to cross roads to get away from the blasted things.

Cats OTOH are honest - they mildly tolerate humans until someone develops a can opener that can be operated with a paw. But they're adorable (http://tevp.net/images/display.php?image=/cats/parents/July%2017th%20001.jpg) and fun and they have curiosity about things (as opposed to the slavish drooling mess that appears to be the average dog thought processes). Ok, yes it's possible for the cuteness to go too far (http://tevp.net/images/display.php?image=/funny/catz/cuteness.jpg) but in general I'm a very pro-cat person.
