other than that it just strikes me as pretentious

It's post-post-post-ironic indie rock, so of course it's pretentious as hell. Nope, they don't reference it anywhere in the song, and it wouldn't even fit with the rest of the material, but I still like the idea that they named it after that (which is why I'm part of the target market for the song...)
